Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed the digitization of the entire oil and gas supply chain, spanning from imports to consumer end use, as a priority measure. He chaired a meeting addressing the Petroleum Division’s concerns in Islamabad today.
According to Radio Pakistan, the Prime Minister highlighted that digitizing the transportation and supply chain of oil and gas would not only deter smuggling but also contribute positively to the national exchequer. He underscored the urgency for discovering new oil and gas reserves within the country to conserve valuable foreign exchange that is currently expended on importing petroleum products.
The assembly received a briefing outlining a roadmap for the petroleum and gas sector. It was revealed that the Oil and Gas Development Company Limited has successfully discovered substantial oil and gas reserves in the Nashpa Block located in the Kohat district. Prime Minister Sharif extended his congratulations to the nation on this significant discovery and commended the performance of the involved institutions. The reserves are expected to yield approximately 4,100 barrels of oil daily.
Furthermore, it was reported that domestic consumers are experiencing better gas pressure this winter season compared to the previous year. Progress on RLNG connections is advancing swiftly, with an aim to achieve 350,000 connections by June. Additionally, the meeting was informed that pipelines for the Shewa Gas Field and Bettani Gas Field have been commissioned, with ongoing work on the pipeline from the Kot Palak Gas Field.
