PM Expresses Commitment to Boost Pak-Kyrgyz Trade to $200m


Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has expressed Pakistan’s commitment to take the bilateral trade with Kyrgyzstan to two hundred million dollars in the next two years. He was addressing the Pakistan-Kyrgyzstan Business Forum in Islamabad today.



According to Radio Pakistan, the Prime Minister highlighted Kyrgyzstan’s status as a landlocked country and emphasized Pakistan’s geographical advantage in providing quick access to Kyrgyzstan through its ports. He encouraged Kyrgyz businessmen to identify areas for mutual cooperation to enhance bilateral trade and investment, specifically in sectors such as education, textile, agriculture, and health.



The Prime Minister noted that approximately 8,500 Pakistani students are currently studying in medical universities in Kyrgyzstan. He mentioned that both countries have agreed on a joint mechanism to certify these doctors for practice in Kyrgyzstan and Pakistan. To promote cultural relations, Shehbaz Sharif announced that both nations have decided to hold cultural events in Bishkek, Islamabad, and other provincial centers in Pakistan.



Expressing support for the CASA-1000 project, Shehbaz Sharif commended Kyrgyzstan on completing its part of the project, while assuring that Pakistan’s segment will be completed soon. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to transform the historical goodwill and friendship between the two countries into strong economic bonds.



Addressing the forum, President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Zhaparov stated that there are excellent conditions to fully realize the potential of trade and economic cooperation between Pakistan and Kyrgyzstan. He highlighted Kyrgyzstan’s strategic location in the heart of Eurasia, offering opportunities through transit and logistical advancements to reach millions in the global market.



Sadyr Zhaparov expressed Kyrgyzstan’s full support for the implementation of Pakistan’s goals under the URAAN Pakistan development program. He also indicated Kyrgyzstan’s readiness to cooperate with Pakistani entrepreneurs in the field of virtual assets.
