PM Directs Provinces to Assess Flood, Rain Damages

Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed all provinces and relevant institutions to conduct a thorough assessment of the damages caused by recent floods and rains, in order to formulate a clear and effective rehabilitation plan. He issued these instructions while chairing a review meeting on flood damage assessment in Islamabad on Tuesday.

According to Radio Pakistan, the Prime Minister commended the timely and effective actions taken by all Chief Ministers in response to the recent weather-related challenges. He urged federal and interprovincial institutions to collaborate closely in estimating the full extent of the damages.

He emphasized that the assessment must account not only for human and financial losses, but also for the destruction of crops and losses in livestock. The Prime Minister advised seeking support from SUPARCO for satellite-based assessments. He also called for immediate measures to protect crops from post-flood diseases and stressed the need for targeted efforts to cultivate suitable crops in flood-affected areas.

He underscored the importance of restoring infrastructure, prioritizing the repair and maintenance of damaged roads. Shehbaz Sharif further directed all ministers and relevant institutions to remain actively engaged with affected communities throughout the recovery phase.

During the meeting, the Prime Minister was briefed by the Chairman of the National Disaster Management Authority and other relevant departments on the reconstruction and rehabilitation efforts undertaken so far. He was informed that damage assessments for sugarcane, cotton, and rice crops are already underway and are expected to be completed within the next 15 days as water levels recede.
