Pakistan’s Commitment to Regional Peace and Counterterrorism Efforts

Islamabad:Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar has affirmed Pakistan's determination to prevent terrorists from using safe havens in Afghanistan to launch attacks on Pakistan.

According to Radio Pakistan, Tarar emphasized that Pakistan's desire for peace should not be misinterpreted as a sign of weakness. He cited estimates from the United Nations and independent assessments indicating the presence of over six thousand TTP terrorists in Afghanistan, with the total number of terrorists estimated to exceed twenty thousand.

Tarar explained that since the Afghan Taliban's return to power in 2021, the TTP has been exploiting Afghan territory for recruitment, training, facilitation, planning, and launching attacks against Pakistan. The 38th UN Monitoring Report has noted the relocation of nearly two thousand TTP terrorists and their families from border areas to deeper inside Afghanistan.

Highlighting the sacrifices made by Pakistan in the fight against terrorism, Tarar stated that no other nation has experienced losses of over 90,000 lives and economic damages exceeding 100 billion dollars. He described Pakistan as a global symbol of resistance against terrorism, acting as a shield between terrorists and the rest of the world.

Tarar also mentioned Pakistan's recent role in mediating between the United States and Iran, demonstrating its commitment to peace under the leadership of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir.

He noted a significant development in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, empowering the province's people to combat terrorism, and praised their determination in this ongoing struggle.
