Dushanbe: Pakistan’s Ambassador to Tajikistan, Muhammad Saeed Sarwar, has underscored the potential of a Preferential Trade Agreement (PTA) between Pakistan and Tajikistan, emphasizing its significance in promoting trade liberalization and regional economic integration. During an interactive session with Pakistani media in Dushanbe, Ambassador Sarwar projected that bilateral trade could reach up to three hundred million dollars in the foreseeable future.
According to Radio Pakistan, the Ambassador identified significant opportunities in the halal meat sector, with Pakistan planning to export 143,000 tons valued at 14.5 million dollars to Tajikistan. This initiative is expected to broaden trade in halal products between the two nations. Ambassador Sarwar also advocated for the importance of direct flights, highlighting the need for effective marketing and involvement of travel agents to ensure their regular operation.
The Ambassador reiterated the strategic importance of Central Asian countries like Tajikistan for Pakistan and confirmed the Embassy’s commitment to enhancing academic and educational ties between the two countries. Further strengthening these ties, the First Deputy Minister of Education and Science of the Republic of Tajikistan, Hoshimzoda Homid Hasan, announced plans to sign a Memorandum of Understanding for student and faculty exchanges with Pakistan, particularly in the fields of medical science and education.
During a meeting with a delegation of visiting Pakistani journalists in Dushanbe, Deputy Minister Hasan praised the Avicenna Tajik State Medical University for its role in fortifying bilateral relations. He highlighted the shared vision of both governments for institutional cooperation to boost collaboration in medical tourism and sciences, with the ultimate goal of fostering economic growth. The Deputy Minister also emphasized the commitment of top leadership from both countries to enhance people-to-people ties, which are essential for sustainable bilateral relations.
