Pakistan Urges UNSC to Address Rising Tensions in South Asia

Islamabad: Pakistan has urged the United Nations Security Council to take steps to de-escalate tensions in South Asia for global and regional peace. Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Asim Iftikhar, emphasized the need for dialogue as the only way to resolve ongoing issues in the region.

According to Radio Pakistan, Asim Iftikhar highlighted the persistent Kashmir dispute between Pakistan and India, which has remained unresolved for over 70 years. He pointed out the ongoing situation in Kashmir, describing the continued actions against Kashmiris as a significant concern.

Iftikhar also informed the Council members of Pakistan’s willingness to participate in an independent and neutral investigation regarding the Pahalgam incident. Additionally, he raised concerns about India holding the Indus Waters Treaty in abeyance, which poses further challenges to the already tense regional dynamics.
