Pakistan Urges UN to Address Sexual Violence Against Women in Occupied Regions

New york: At the United Nations Security Council, Pakistan has issued a call to end the suffering and abuse of women and girls living under foreign occupation, specifically highlighting the situations in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) and Palestine.

According to Radio Pakistan, Pakistan's Permanent Representative to the UN, Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, emphasized that sexual violence is being weaponized as a means of war, torture, terrorism, political repression, and as a tool to solidify illegal occupation of territories. Ahmad made these remarks during a debate focused on conflict-related sexual violence, part of the 15-member Council's agenda on women, peace, and security.

The Pakistani envoy noted that the Occupied Palestinian Territories serve as a 'glaring example' of such abuse. He pointed to Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir as another region where sexual violence is employed as a means to punish and humiliate communities. Ahmad urged the Security Council to condemn and address this disturbing trend with determination.
