Islamabad: Pakistan has urged the Indian government to promote an environment of tolerance and inclusivity, ensuring equal legal citizenship rights and mutual respect among all religious and cultural communities. The call was made by the Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Tahir Andrabi, during his weekly media briefing in Islamabad. This statement comes in the wake of the anniversary of the destruction of the historic Babri Mosque by Hindu fanatics.
According to Radio Pakistan, the Spokesperson emphasized the importance of preserving religious heritage and sacred sites, labeling the Babri Mosque as a heritage site. He stressed that acts undermining Muslim religious symbols or historical legacies should be addressed with transparency, accountability, and a commitment to justice.
The Foreign Office Spokesperson highlighted that the desecration of any place of worship breaches the principle of religious equality and undermines the collective sense of security and mutual respect that all communities deserve. He expressed concern over the continued marginalization and emotional distress experienced by Indian Muslims in the wake of the Babri Mosque’s destruction, noting that this issue is exacerbated by state patronage.
Tahir Andrabi reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to interfaith harmony and peaceful coexistence. He called on the international community, including relevant United Nations organizations and influential global voices, to acknowledge the importance of safeguarding Muslim religious heritage and to prevent incidents like the destruction of the Babri Mosque from recurring. Pakistan also reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the rights and religious freedom of minorities within its borders, in line with its legal obligations.
In response to a question about Pakistan’s stance on the statements made by the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs regarding Zangnan (Arunachal Pradesh) and subsequent statements by India and media commentary on the matter, the Spokesperson confirmed that Pakistan has taken note of China’s remarks. He reiterated Pakistan’s consistent support for China on issues concerning its sovereignty and territorial integrity.
