Pakistan, Trkiye, and Azerbaijan Commit to Advancing Regional Peace

Islamabad: The Third Trilateral Speakers’ Meeting of the Parliaments of Pakistan, Trkiye, and Azerbaijan, hosted by Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, concluded in Islamabad today.

According to Radio Pakistan, the meeting unanimously adopted the Islamabad Declaration, emphasizing that global and regional peace and stability require the peaceful resolution of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute as per UN resolutions. The declaration warned that any attempt to alter the demographic composition of Jammu and Kashmir could exacerbate regional tensions and destabilize peace efforts.

The Speakers’ Meeting highlighted the shared bonds of history, culture, and values among the three nations and expressed a strong desire to deepen cooperation in multiple areas, including political, strategic, trade, economic, defense, peace and security, science and technology, climate change, environment, and cultural exchange.

The declaration acknowledged terrorism as a global threat, including the use of terrorist groups as proxies, and emphasized the necessity for collective and comprehensive strategies to combat such challenges. The three countries reaffirmed their commitment to international law and multilateral cooperation, particularly within frameworks such as the United Nations, Organization of Islamic Cooperation, Economic Cooperation Organization, and D-8.

On climate change, the declaration urged joint efforts to mitigate its adverse impacts and welcomed the upcoming COP29 in Baku as a milestone for global climate action. It highlighted the importance of adequate climate finance for developing countries and called for enhanced cooperation in implementing Sustainable Development Goals, promoting green energy, and ensuring environmental sustainability.

The Islamabad Declaration also underscored the importance of involving women and youth in decision-making processes and advocated for the promotion of youth exchange programs, forums, and public diplomacy initiatives. The three Speakers reiterated their unwavering support for the Palestinian people and stressed that any sustainable solution to the crisis must include ending Israeli aggression, delivering humanitarian aid, and establishing an independent State of Palestine with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital, in accordance with UN resolutions.

The meeting expressed solidarity with Azerbaijan over challenges posed by landmines and remnants of war in its liberated territories. It reaffirmed support for Azerbaijan’s efforts to rehabilitate and rebuild those areas and ensure the safe return of internally displaced persons.

Additionally, the Speakers agreed to strengthen trilateral cooperation in defense and connectivity projects, including the East-West and North-South Corridors, and to foster inter-parliamentary exchanges among standing committees, friendship groups, and parliamentary staff. The conference concluded with the decision to hold the next Trilateral Speakers’ Meeting in Azerbaijan next year on mutually agreed dates.

The Speakers of Trkiye and Azerbaijan expressed gratitude to Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq and the National Assembly of Pakistan for their hospitality, arrangements, and successful organization of the Third Trilateral Speakers’ Meeting in Islamabad.
