Pakistan Secures Re-election to OPCW Executive Council for 2026-2028 Term

Islamabad: Pakistan has been re-elected to the Executive Council of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) for the term 2026-2028. The elections took place during the 30th Session of the Conference of States Parties (CSP-30).

According to Radio Pakistan, the Executive Council is the principal policy-making organ of the OPCW. It is tasked with overseeing the effective implementation of, and compliance with, the Convention. Additionally, it supports the scientific and economic development of its Member States in the peaceful uses of chemistry.

Pakistan has been an active member of the OPCW and has served on the Executive Council since its ratification of the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC) in 1997. The country has consistently contributed towards fulfilling the objectives of the CWC and frequently hosts OPCW routine inspections at its relevant facilities.

The re-election of Pakistan to the 41-member Executive Council of the OPCW highlights Pakistan’s role within the Organization. It reaffirms the confidence of Member States in Pakistan’s ability to provide leadership and impetus to the work of the OPCW.
