Pakistan Prepares for Rapid Expansion in Critical Sectors: PM

Davos: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has announced that Pakistan is poised for a swift advancement in the agriculture, industry, mining, Artificial Intelligence, and Information Technology sectors. He made this declaration at the "Pakistan Breakfast" held on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos.

According to Radio Pakistan, the Prime Minister emphasized the government's persistent efforts to stabilize the economy. He reported that macroeconomic indicators are showing positive trends, with inflation decreasing from 30 percent to 5.5 percent and the policy rate dropping from 22.5 percent to 10.5 percent. IT exports are also experiencing notable growth.

Shehbaz Sharif highlighted the government's focus on export-led growth and structural reforms in the revenue collection system. He noted that the tax collection to GDP ratio has increased to 10.5 percent, compared to nine percent a few years ago. The Prime Minister also mentioned the rise in agricultural exports and new agreements with American and Chinese companies. He emphasized the government's determination to advance sectors like crypto, Artificial Intelligence, and IT rapidly, providing support through training and certification to boost IT exports.

The Prime Minister stressed Pakistan's strong economic ties with China and the United States, anticipating enhanced cooperation in mining, counter-terrorism, information technology, and artificial intelligence. He also pointed out the government's encouragement of private sector involvement, citing the recent transparent privatization of Pakistan International Airlines. The government plans to outsource airport operations and privatize power distribution companies and transmission lines.
