Islamabad: Minister for Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal has announced that Pakistan has joined the Board of Peace to contribute to peace efforts in Palestine. He made this announcement during a joint session of Parliament, addressing remarks from opposition leader Raja Nasir Abbas and JUI-F Chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman.
According to Radio Pakistan, Ahsan Iqbal emphasized the diplomatic success of Pakistan's involvement in the Board of Peace, highlighting the opportunity it provides to advocate for Palestinian rights and peace. He reiterated that Pakistan's stance on Palestine remains consistent, viewing Israel as an aggressor and supporting the establishment of an independent Palestinian state based on pre-1967 borders.
The Minister assured that Pakistan's sovereignty and security are not under threat, referencing the previous year's conflict in May where Pakistan's armed forces reportedly inflicted a defeat on India. He emphasized that no external forces could threaten Pakistan.
In the same session, Parliament passed a resolution mourning the tragic fire at Gul Plaza in Karachi. The resolution, presented by Farooq Sattar, expressed condolences to the victims' families and called for the Sindh government to provide compensation and support for affected businesses. It also urged for an increase in firefighting stations in Karachi, with federal support for these measures.
Additionally, the joint session passed three significant bills: the National Commission for Human Rights Amendment Bill, 2025, the Daanish Schools Authority Bill, 2025, and the Domestic Violence (Prevention and Protection) Bill, 2025, before being prorogued.
