Islamabad: At the United Nations, Pakistan has emphasized the International Court of Justice’s crucial role for the peaceful settlement of disputes. Pakistan’s delegate Zulfiqar Ali, taking part in a debate at UN General Assembly, said amid cataclysmic transformations taking place across the globe, ICJ’s role for the pacific settlement of disputes has gained greater significance.
According to Radio Pakistan, Zulfiqar Ali highlighted the rampant unilateral and indiscriminate use of force, along with violations of international obligations, which flagrantly disregard the UN Charter and international law. He stressed that these actions are becoming increasingly common.
The Pakistani envoy expressed concern over the blatant violation of international law and the usurpation of fundamental rights of people under occupation in regions such as Palestine and Jammu and Kashmir. Zulfiqar Ali, who serves as the first secretary in the Pakistani Mission to the UN, reaffirmed Pakistan’s strong support for the ICJ’s role, describing it as a major pillar of global governance architecture and one of the UN’s principal organs.
