Pakistan Fulfilling Obligations Under GSP Plus Framework: Salik


Islamabad: Minister for Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development, Chaudhry Salik Hussain, has stated that Pakistan is fulfilling its international obligations under the GSP Plus framework with complete seriousness, transparency, and commitment. During a meeting with the European Union’s GSP Plus Monitoring Delegation, he highlighted that Pakistan’s partnership with the European Union extends beyond trade and represents a significant step in promoting reforms, strengthening institutions, and achieving sustainable development.



According to Radio Pakistan, Chaudhry Salik Hussain emphasized that Pakistan’s election as a member of the United Nations Human Rights Council reflects the confidence of the international community in the country. He underscored the importance of the GSP Plus scheme for economic stability, export promotion, and particularly for the economic upliftment of the labor class in Pakistan.



The Minister informed the delegation of the Government of Pakistan’s efforts to significantly increase the minimum wage and ensure the timely and full payment of wages to workers. He noted that the government is implementing comprehensive reform measures to protect labor rights, ensure workplace safety, provide social protection, and enhance human resource development. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to fully implementing international labor conventions.



The European Union delegation appreciated Pakistan’s overall progress and emphasized that continuity of reforms in labor rights, environmental protection, and good governance is essential for maintaining GSP Plus status.
