Pakistan Denounces India’s Allegations of ‘Illegal Nuclear Activities’ as Baseless

Islamabad: Pakistan has dismissed allegations made by the Indian Ministry of External Affairs regarding “clandestine or illegal nuclear activities” as unfounded and part of a disinformation campaign by New Delhi intended to divert attention from its own conduct.

According to Radio Pakistan, Tahir Andrabi, the Spokesperson for Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, responded to media inquiries following a statement by the Indian Ministry of External Affairs. The queries involved India’s attempt to link comments made by US President Donald Trump on nuclear testing with allegations concerning Pakistan’s nuclear history. Andrabi emphasized that India is distorting facts and misrepresenting President Trump’s remarks, which the United States has already clarified to the media.

Andrabi reiterated that Pakistan’s last nuclear tests occurred in May 1998 and highlighted Pakistan’s consistent support for United Nations General Assembly resolutions advocating a comprehensive ban on nuclear testing. In contrast, he criticized India’s abstentions on these resolutions as indicative of its unclear intentions regarding future nuclear tests.

The Foreign Office Spokesperson underscored that Pakistan’s nuclear program is governed by a robust command and control structure, comprehensive export controls, and a strong record of compliance with global non-proliferation standards. He described the allegations of illegal nuclear activities as baseless and part of India’s campaign to shift focus from its own irresponsible actions.

Andrabi expressed concerns over India’s nuclear safety and security record, citing numerous incidents over the years involving the theft and illicit trafficking of sensitive nuclear material. He noted a significant incident last year where radioactive equipment from the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, including Californium valued at over USD 100 million, was found for sale in India.

The Spokesperson highlighted that such incidents suggest the presence of a thriving nuclear black market in India, posing severe threats to regional and global security. He urged the international community to seriously consider these security lapses.
