Islamabad: Pakistan has strongly condemned the interception of the Global Sumud Flotilla by Israel. In a statement today, the Foreign Office emphasized that the unlawful detention of international activists onboard the flotilla constitutes a violation of international law and international humanitarian law by Israel, endangering the lives of civilians.
According to Radio Pakistan, the Global Sumud Flotilla consists of over 40 civilian vessels carrying approximately 500 international activists intending to deliver humanitarian assistance to the besieged population of Gaza. The Foreign Office statement described the interception as part of Israel’s ongoing aggression and its blockade of Gaza, which has resulted in significant human suffering for over two million Palestinians.
The statement highlighted that the obstruction of humanitarian relief represents a breach of Israel’s obligations under the Fourth Geneva Convention as an occupying power. Pakistan’s Foreign Office reiterated the call for an immediate and unconditional ceasefire across all Occupied Palestinian Territories, the lifting of the Gaza blockade, and the provision of humanitarian aid. It also demanded the release of all humanitarian workers and activists from the flotilla, respect for international law, and accountability for Israel’s actions.
Pakistan reaffirmed its support for the Palestinian struggle for self-determination and the establishment of an independent State of Palestine with pre-1967 borders and Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital.
