Pakistan Committed to Upholding Ceasefire Understanding with India: PM

Islamabad: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif says Pakistan remains committed to upholding the ceasefire understanding with India in the interest of regional peace. He expressed these views during a telephonic conversation with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi on Tuesday.

According to Radio Pakistan, the Prime Minister conveyed his profound gratitude to President Al-Sisi for Egypt’s constructive role, its balanced statements, and proactive diplomacy throughout the recent crisis in South Asia that helped defuse tensions between Pakistan and India. He paid tribute to the armed forces of Pakistan for defending the nation’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Shehbaz Sharif also drew the Egyptian President’s attention to the significance of the Indus Waters Treaty, which India was threatening to hold in abeyance-a step that would constitute a red line for Pakistan. Addressing the Gaza situation, he urged the international community to ensure the timely delivery of humanitarian assistance to the people of Gaza.

Shehbaz Sharif also expressed hope that the upcoming UN Conference on the Two-State Solution would yield meaningful outcomes. Highlighting Pakistan-Egypt relations, the Prime Minister emphasized the need to enhance bilateral trade and investment.

In response, President Al-Sisi welcomed the ceasefire understanding between Pakistan and India, appreciating Pakistan’s efforts for peace and stability in South Asia. He reaffirmed Egypt’s desire for stronger ties with Pakistan and appreciated the humanitarian assistance sent to Gaza by Pakistan. The Prime Minister extended an invitation to President Al-Sisi for an official visit to Pakistan, which was graciously accepted.
