Pakistan Calls for Dialogue to Foster Peace in Caribbean

Islamabad: Pakistan has urged all stakeholders to prioritize dialogue as the path forward for peace in the Caribbean.

According to Radio Pakistan, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, made this appeal during the UN Security Council’s emergency meeting on Venezuela. He called upon the parties involved to exercise maximum restraint, de-escalate tensions, and refrain from actions that could further inflame the situation in the Caribbean region.

Ambassador Ahmad cautioned against pursuing confrontation and zero-sum approaches. He emphasized that Pakistan’s consistent position is to support dialogue as the only viable and sustainable method for resolving differences. He encouraged the parties to utilize available diplomatic channels and seek constructive engagement under the framework of international law, possibly with the assistance of the UN, the Secretary General, or relevant regional organizations.

Ambassador Asim also addressed the challenge of transnational organized crime, including drug trafficking, which threatens societal wellbeing. He suggested that the international response to these issues must be rooted in the principle of “common and shared responsibility” in strict adherence to international law, including the UN Charter.

He highlighted the risks of actions that contradict the UN Charter and its principles, warning that such actions could set dangerous precedents and destabilize the entire region. The ambassador urged all parties to respect the necessity of peaceful coexistence and to choose dialogue and cooperation to ensure the Caribbean remains a “Zone of Peace.”
