Pakistan and Turkiye to Boost Energy Sector Cooperation


Islamabad: Pakistan and Turkiye have agreed to enhance their collaboration in the energy sector, with a particular focus on renewable energy. This development follows a meeting between Turkiye’s Minister for Energy and Natural Resources, Alparslan Bayraktar, and Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif in Islamabad.



According to Radio Pakistan, Minister Bayraktar led a nine-member delegation to discuss potential areas of cooperation. Turkiye showed a keen interest in Pakistan’s minerals sector, notably in the discovery of rare minerals. During the talks, Prime Minister Sharif emphasized the numerous opportunities available to further expand economic relations between the two countries.



The meeting highlighted an agreement on cooperation regarding offshore oil and gas exploration, which is expected to strengthen economic ties between Turkiye and Pakistan. The Turkish delegation praised the ongoing reforms in Pakistan’s energy sector, noting that these changes would make the sector more appealing for investment.



Minister Bayraktar noted that Turkiye is willing to share its successful experiences in power sector reforms and privatization with Pakistan. He also mentioned the insights gained from the Pakistan Minerals Investment Forum, acknowledging the vast potential in Pakistan’s minerals sector.
