Islamabad: Pakistan and Sri Lanka have consistently maintained a clear stance against elements that threaten peace in the region. In their fight against terrorism, the cricket teams of both nations have also emerged as symbols of unity.
According to Radio Pakistan, both countries have strengthened peace, friendship, and cooperation during challenging times. In 1996, when many international teams refused to play in Sri Lanka due to tense circumstances, Pakistan’s cricket team demonstrated the true spirit of friendship by touring Sri Lanka. This act was a strong message of peace, courage, and brotherhood by the Pakistani cricket team.
On the occasion, former Pakistani captain Wasim Akram noted that the continuity of the Sri Lankan cricket team’s tours to Pakistan reflects the enduring love, trust, and strong relations between the two countries, despite Pakistan facing challenges related to terrorism. The people of Pakistan have warmly appreciated the continued visits of the Sri Lankan team, and Pakistan has accorded the visiting team the status of state guests, making complete arrangements to provide them with foolproof security.
