Islamabad: Pakistan and Poland have agreed to expand bilateral cooperation across multiple sectors, including trade, energy, infrastructure, defence, counter-terrorism, science and technology, and education. This announcement was made by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar during a joint press stakeout with his Polish counterpart, Radoslaw Sikorski, in Islamabad.
According to Radio Pakistan, during the delegation-level talks, both sides reviewed the positive trajectory of Pakistan-Poland relations. Ishaq Dar highlighted that bilateral trade between the two countries exceeds one billion dollars and emphasized the untapped potential for further economic collaboration. The discussions also covered key regional and global issues, including security concerns in South Asia, Afghanistan, Europe, and the Middle East. Dar reiterated Pakistan’s concerns over unprovoked Indian aggression and the importance of resolving the Jammu and Kashmir dispute as per the aspirations of the Kashmiri people and relevant UN resolutions.
Dar mentioned recent concerns about the Taliban regime and extremist elements such as Fitna al-Khawarij and Fitna al-Hindustan in Afghanistan. He emphasized that continued attacks by these groups remain a significant worry for Pakistan. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to transforming its relationship with Poland into a comprehensive partnership.
Polish Deputy Prime Minister Radoslaw Sikorski expressed Poland’s willingness to intensify cooperation in trade, public finance, fintech, and water management. He also highlighted potential collaboration in mining and the energy sector. Sikorski noted the growing Pakistani diaspora in Poland and the increasing popularity of Polish universities among Pakistani students. He emphasized the importance of people-to-people contacts and stated Poland’s openness to legal migration and academic pursuits, while maintaining zero tolerance for illegal migration.
On international matters, Sikorski affirmed Poland’s support for a comprehensive peace in Ukraine and expressed commitment to advocating for peace in Gaza. Two memorandums of understanding were signed to establish regular bilateral consultations and cooperation between the Institute of Strategic Studies Islamabad and the Polish Institute of International Affairs.
