Pakistan and Iran Strengthen Bilateral Ties with Focus on Trade, Investment, and Security

Tehran: Pakistan and Iran have agreed to enhance bilateral cooperation in various fields, notably trade, investment, and commerce. This understanding was reached during a meeting between Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif and Iranian President Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian in Tehran.

According to Radio Pakistan, both leaders addressed a joint news conference following their meeting, highlighting their commitment to transform their deep-rooted ties into proactive cooperation across different sectors. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif emphasized Pakistan's dedication to peace while asserting the nation's right to defense if confronted by aggression from India. He reiterated the importance of resolving outstanding issues with India, particularly the Jammu and Kashmir dispute, through dialogue and in alignment with UN Security Council resolutions.

The Prime Minister expressed Pakistan's readiness to discuss water issues, promote trade, and enhance counter-terrorism efforts with India. He conveyed gratitude to the Iranian President for his concern regarding regional tensions and appreciated the solidarity shown towards the people of Pakistan during these times. Additionally, Shehbaz Sharif lauded the efforts of Pakistan's armed forces in overcoming recent crises.

Addressing broader regional concerns, the Prime Minister condemned Israeli actions in Gaza and urged the international community to facilitate a ceasefire. He also affirmed Pakistan's support for Iran's right to pursue a peaceful nuclear program.

The Iranian President, in turn, welcomed the ceasefire understanding between Pakistan and India, advocating for dialogue as the path to peaceful conflict resolution. He emphasized the need for Pakistan and Iran to enhance bilateral cooperation to make their border areas secure from terrorists and criminal groups, stressing that sustainable regional security and friendly relations with neighbors are shared priorities.

Both leaders, as active members of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), voiced support for the Palestinian cause and condemned ongoing Israeli actions in Gaza.
