Islamabad: Pakistan and India have reached a ceasefire understanding following a period of heightened tensions and military engagements across their shared border. The agreement comes after a series of retaliatory actions between the two nations, marking a significant development in their tumultuous relationship.
According to Radio Pakistan, the recent escalation began when Pakistan was compelled to respond to what it described as unprovoked Indian aggression. This included the firing of Brahmos missiles over various locations across the international border, prompting Pakistan to launch “Operation Bunyan-ul-Marsoos” in self-defense under Article 51 of the UN Charter. The operation aimed to target only those entities and facilities involved in the aggression against Pakistan, ensuring a response that was precise and proportionate.
During the nights of May 7-10, 2025, India conducted multiple strikes that resulted in civilian casualties and significant damage to infrastructure, including places of worship. These actions led to a heightened demand among the Pakistani public for an immediate and decisive response. Despite facing continuous provocations, Pakistan claims it exercised restraint, focusing its response on military targets to avoid civilian harm.
The conflict, characterized as a dangerous confrontation between two nuclear-armed states, has drawn attention from the international community. The longstanding dispute over Jammu and Kashmir remains a central issue, with Pakistan urging the global community to recognize the complexities of the situation and to discourage India from leveraging terrorism narratives for policy goals.
Pakistan’s Foreign Office emphasized that both nations must work towards sustainable peace and warned against further escalation, which could have catastrophic consequences for the region. Pakistan remains open to diplomacy and dialogue, seeking peaceful resolutions to longstanding issues, including the Jammu and Kashmir dispute.
The Foreign Office also highlighted Pakistan’s extensive contributions to combating terrorism and its resilience in the face of regional challenges. It called for international support in restraining India and fostering a cooperative approach to regional stability.
In light of these developments, Pakistan’s Armed Forces continue to prioritize the defense of the nation’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, underscoring the importance of avoiding escalation between the two countries.
