Pakistan and Ethiopia Reach Agreement to Enhance Agricultural Cooperation


Islamabad: Pakistan and Ethiopia have agreed to strengthen agricultural cooperation for food security and economic growth. An agreement was reached at a meeting between Minister for National Food Security and Research, Rana Tanveer Hussain, and Ethiopian Ambassador Dr. Jemal Beker Abdula.



According to Radio Pakistan, the Minister proposed the establishment of a Joint Working Group on Agriculture and Livestock to institutionalize dialogue and cooperation between the two countries. This group is expected to facilitate collaboration in various areas including research, livestock health, veterinary services, technology transfer, irrigation, and capacity-building through technical exchanges.



The Minister also expressed a warm welcome for Ethiopian cooperation in aligning sanitary and phytosanitary standards, which could unlock greater agricultural trade potential. He emphasized Pakistan’s interest in importing high-quality Ethiopian cotton to diversify its agricultural imports and enhance textile production.



Rana Tanveer Hussain reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to fostering research-based collaboration with Ethiopia aimed at achieving food security, innovation, and sustainable growth. In response, Ambassador Dr. Jemal Beker Abdula appreciated Pakistan’s strategic vision and acknowledged the importance of deepening cooperation in agriculture.
