Islamabad: Minister for National Food Security and Research Rana Tanveer Hussain has reiterated Pakistan’s strong interest in expanding agricultural cooperation with Canada. He was talking to Canadian High Commissioner Tarik Ali Khan, who called on him in Islamabad today.

According to Radio Pakistan, Rana Tanveer Hussain stressed the importance of resolving market access challenges to ensure uninterrupted trade in priority commodities, particularly canola, which is Pakistan’s major agricultural import from Canada. He stated that Pakistan can export mangoes, rice, kinnow, dates, halal meat, gelatin, sheep casings, and processed poultry products to Canada.

The Minister also outlined Pakistan’s need for Canadian technical assistance in areas critical to agricultural modernization and international market compliance, including embryo transfer technology, import risk assessment training, and the development of modern animal health information systems. Tarik Ali Khan reaffirmed Canada’s commitment to supporting Pakistan in strengthening food security, modernizing agricultural systems, and improving trade competitiveness.

He invited Pakistani officials to attend the Canada Crops Convention in April next year and confirmed that Canada looks forward to participating in the Pakistan Edible Oil Conference.
