Islamabad: The Pakistan Environmental Protection Agency has rolled out a comprehensive Vehicular Emission Control Action Plan for the Islamabad Capital Territory to combat air pollution and smog in the capital city. This initiative aims to address the growing environmental concerns surrounding air quality in Islamabad.

According to Radio Pakistan, Spokesperson Ministry of Climate Change and Environmental Coordination Muhammad Saleem Shaikh revealed the details of the plan in a statement today. The Pak-EPA, in collaboration with the Islamabad Traffic Police, will conduct regular and surprise roadside inspections to ensure compliance with National Environmental Quality Standards.

The action plan mandates vehicle owners to obtain emission compliance certificates, which will be integrated with the registration and transfer processes. Additionally, the burning of trash and solid waste will be strictly prohibited within the Federal Capital’s limits.

The plan also includes the launch of a comprehensive Electric Vehicle Promotion Programme, which will establish EV charging stations across Islamabad. The programme introduces a 10 percent EV quota in government fleets and offers incentives such as tax exemptions and dedicated EV lanes.
