Islamabad: The inaugural meeting of the 11th National Finance Commission took place in Islamabad with Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb presiding over the session. The meeting saw participation from key provincial leaders, including Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi, Punjab Finance Minister Mian Mujtaba Shuja-ur-Rehman, and Balochistan Finance Minister Mir Shoaib Nosherwani.
According to Radio Pakistan, Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb highlighted the crucial function of the NFC in ensuring fair distribution of financial resources, promoting fiscal sustainability, and supporting long-term economic growth. During the session, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah reaffirmed his dedication to the prosperity, unity, and progress of Pakistan.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi expressed appreciation to the Federal Government for organizing the meeting, expressing hope that the 11th National Finance Commission will address the concerns of his province. Representatives from Punjab and Balochistan stressed the need for equitable resource distribution and policy consistency.
The meeting concluded with a decision to form a sub-group focusing on issues related to the newly merged districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. This sub-group aims to provide its recommendations for the NFC by mid-next month. The Commission committed to continuing its work through a structured series of meetings and technical consultations, with the shared goal of achieving an equitable and sustainable NFC Award for the people of Pakistan.
