NEV Policy a Milestone for Green Transport: Haroon Akhtar

Islamabad: Prime Minister’s Special Assistant on Industries and Production Haroon Akhtar Khan has termed the New Energy Vehicle Policy as a milestone initiative in the country’s journey towards a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable transport future. Addressing a workshop, he emphasized the policy’s significance as part of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s vision to convert 30 percent of all new vehicle sales in Pakistan to electric vehicles by 2030.

According to Radio Pakistan, the Special Assistant highlighted the benefits of the New Energy Vehicle Policy, stating it can reduce up to 4.5 million tons of carbon dioxide emissions, save one billion dollars in oil imports, and help avoid 405 billion rupees in health-related costs. Haroon Akhtar Khan also detailed the subsidies being offered under the policy, including 65,000 rupees for two-wheeler electric vehicles. Additionally, three-wheelers have a subsidy rate of 400,000 rupees, while four-wheelers are subsidized by 15,000 rupees per kilowatt-hour.

The Special Assistant mentioned that forty fast-charging stations are likely to become operational on highways by the end of this year, further supporting the transition to electric vehicles.
