National Wheat Policy Aims to Stabilize Prices for Farmers: Tanveer

Islamabad: The third meeting of the National Wheat Oversight Committee was convened in Islamabad to review the progress on establishing Provincial Implementation Units for the Interim National Wheat Policy Implementation.

According to Radio Pakistan, the meeting was chaired by Minister for National Food Security and Research Rana Tanveer Hussain. The committee was briefed that all provinces and regions have successfully set up their Provincial Implementation Units, which are essential for the coordinated and effective execution of the Interim National Wheat Policy across the nation.

In discussing the procurement model for wheat strategic reserves, it was revealed that Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Balochistan plan to involve private sector companies in the procurement process. This move is part of a broader strategy to ensure a steady supply and stabilize the wheat market.

Minister Rana Tanveer Hussain highlighted the primary goal of the National Wheat Policy, which is to stabilize wheat prices for farmers, protecting them from market volatility. He emphasized that the policy is crafted to ensure food security while maintaining price stability, thereby preventing undue pressure on consumers once fully implemented.
