National Assembly Session Focuses on Spectrum Auction and Cellular Growth


Islamabad: The National Assembly started its session at the Parliament House in Islamabad today with Speaker Ayaz Sadiq in the chair. The session began with the House offering fateha for the departed soul of the late mother of Army Chief General Syed Asim Munir and others, led by Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haideri.



According to Radio Pakistan, the National Assembly was informed that the government has initiated the process for the release of additional spectrum, with an auction scheduled to take place in the coming months. During the Question Hour, Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunication Shaza Fatima Khawaja responded to queries by stating that the Frequency Allocation Board has made available 567 MHz additional spectrum in the 700, 1800, 2100, 2300, 2600, and 3500 MHz bands. This represents more than 200 percent of the existing spectrum.



Shaza Fatima Khawaja further highlighted the rapid growth of Pakistan’s cellular network. She noted that mobile subscribers have reached 193.4 million, with each subscriber using an average of 8.5 GB of data monthly. The minister’s remarks underscored the significant expansion in mobile connectivity and data usage across the country.
