Islamabad: The National Assembly has passed a resolution, recommending the Federal Government to officially declare Former Prime Minister Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto as a National Martyr. The resolution was moved by Jam Abdul Karim Bijar, acknowledging Bhutto’s significant roles as the founder of the Pakistan People’s Party, former President, and former Prime Minister of Pakistan.
According to Radio Pakistan, the resolution highlighted Bhutto’s contributions to the political, democratic, social, and nuclear strength of the country. His efforts in promoting national unity, empowering common people, strengthening democratic institutions, and establishing Pakistan’s independent foreign policy have been widely acknowledged.
Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto was executed on 4th April 1979, after a judicial process that has been widely criticized both nationally and internationally. Recently, the Supreme Court of Pakistan observed that Bhutto did not receive a fair trial.
