Islamabad: Minister for Climate Change and Environmental Coordination, Musadik Masood Malik, has called for global cooperation for climate justice. Addressing the 2nd Pakistan Expo on Disaster Risk Reduction 2025 in Islamabad, he shared his recent visit to Gilgit-Baltistan, where he witnessed the devastation caused by glacial lake outburst floods and expressed deep concern for the affected communities.

According to Radio Pakistan, Musadik praised the resilience of Pakistan’s vulnerable communities and lauded the National Disaster Management Authority’s (NDMA) role in empowering them with resources. He cited China’s green transition and its leadership in solar energy exports, emphasizing the need to harness the potential of Pakistani youth for a thriving green economy. Musadik Malik highlighted that nations contributing least to the climate crisis suffer the most and deserve global support.

In his remarks, Chairman NDMA Lieutenant General Inam Haider Malik emphasized the importance of future preparedness to minimize disaster-related risks. He noted that Pakistan is the fourth most climate-affected country and among the most water-stressed globally. The Chairman underlined seasonal disaster anticipation strategies, including those for monsoon rains and winter fog and smog. He also praised the role of the National Emergencies Operation Center in anticipating disasters, alerting vulnerable communities, and aiding in mitigation efforts.
