LDA Announces PKR 3.3 Billion Eco-Friendly Development for Gulberg

Lahore: The Lahore Development Authority (LDA) has announced a PKR 3.306 billion sustainable development initiative for the Gulberg area, aiming to enhance urban livability and environmental sustainability. The project, aligned with the vision of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, is expected to complete within six months following its recent approval.

According to Zameen.Com, the initiative received the green light during a recent LDA governing body meeting, which recognized the significant urbanization challenges faced by Lahore, Pakistan’s second-largest city and the provincial capital of Punjab. The focus of this development will be Gulberg, a region that has experienced considerable environmental degradation and smog exacerbated by commercial activities and high-rise constructions.

LDA Director General Tahir Farooq highlighted that the project would include the creation of green spaces, roadside plantations, pedestrian walkways, and bicycle lanes. Additionally, it will feature the installation of categorized recycling and waste bins, solar-powered streetlights, roadside vending points, rainwater harvesting wells, tactile paving for individuals with disabilities, and repairs to broken streets using asphalt/PCC. The project also plans to enhance road safety through new traffic and pedestrian safety furniture.

The proposal was presented to the LDA’s Development Working Party (DWP) on August 5, 2024, which recommended the project for governing body approval. The project, to be fully funded by the LDA under the ‘Sustainable Development Growth Programme in Lahore City,’ will not require additional financial support from the Punjab government. Construction will begin following all necessary procedural and formal approvals.
