Lawmakers Pay Rich Tribute to Late Senators Taj Haider and Khurshid Ahmad


Islamabad: Lawmakers paid rich tribute to Senator Taj Haider, a sitting member of the Senate of Pakistan, who passed away on Tuesday last. The session was marked by heartfelt speeches and resolutions honoring the late senator’s legacy and contributions to the nation.



According to Radio Pakistan, Sherry Rehman opened the debate by describing Taj Haider as a true patriot, celebrated writer, and one of the founding members of the Pakistan People’s Party. She emphasized that his contributions to democracy and advocacy for marginalized communities would be remembered and cherished.



Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar, extending condolences on behalf of the government of Pakistan and treasury benches, remarked that Taj Haider exemplified loyalty and selflessness. He noted that Haider’s commitment to democracy and decency in politics would be eternally remembered.



Syed Shibli Faraz described Haider as a multifaceted personality, highlighting his consistent role as a source of guidance and wisdom for his colleagues. Hamid Khan praised Haider’s independent thought in politics, a trait he deemed increasingly rare in the country.



Kamran Murtaza expressed that Haider’s demise is a great loss for the nation, while Deputy Prime Minister and leader of the House Ishaq Dar acknowledged Haider’s unparalleled loyalty to the PPP and his contributions to various social causes, including labor rights, education, and health.



Ishaq Dar also paid tribute to ex-Senator Professor Khurshid Ahmad for his multidisciplinary contributions. The session saw speeches from various lawmakers, including Hidayatullah Khan, Pervaiz Rashid, and others, who shared their memories and paid respects to the late senators.



The Senate passed two unanimous resolutions, paying rich tribute to Senator Taj Haider and ex-Senator Professor Khurshid Ahmad. The first resolution, moved by Sherry Rehman, expressed profound grief over Haider’s passing and acknowledged his advocacy for people’s rights. The second resolution, presented by Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar, extended condolences on the demise of former Senator Khurshid Ahmad.



At the session’s outset, the House offered fateha for the departed souls of the late Senator Taj Haider, ex-Senator Khurshid Ahmad, and others, including the victims of the Jaffer Express and law enforcement personnel who embraced martyrdom, as well as innocent Palestinians.
