Peshawar: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has announced a waiver of charges for telecom companies for laying underground cable networks for the next three years. This development is aimed at facilitating affordable, high-speed internet access throughout the province by reducing infrastructure expenses.

According to Radio Pakistan, the government’s decision is expected to significantly enhance internet connectivity, which will be beneficial for students, freelancers, businesses, and essential services. This initiative is anticipated to help drive a digital revolution in the region, as articulated by Dr. Shafqat Ayaz, the Special Assistant to the Chief Minister on Science and Technology.

Previously, telecom companies were required to pay five rupees per meter to the National Highway Authority for laying cables. This fee waiver is a strategic move to encourage further investment in digital infrastructure, thereby laying a foundation for economic and educational growth in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
