New york: Pakistan has reaffirmed that Kashmir never was and never will be a part of India. This statement was made by Gul Qaiser Sarwani, Counselor and Political Coordinator at Pakistan’s Mission to the UN, in response to comments from an Indian representative.
According to Radio Pakistan, Gul Qaiser Sarwani emphasized that Jammu and Kashmir is recognized internationally as a disputed territory. He stated that this is not only Pakistan’s stance but also the position of the United Nations. Sarwani highlighted that India itself brought the Kashmir issue to the Security Council and agreed to a plebiscite under UN supervision, allowing the people of Jammu and Kashmir to determine their future. However, he pointed out that nearly eight decades later, this commitment remains unfulfilled.
Sarwani criticized India’s attempts to shift the focus with allegations of terrorism, stating these attempts cannot obscure its record of supporting terrorism across borders, engaging in state terrorism in occupied Jammu and Kashmir, conducting global state-backed assassination campaigns, and promoting violence against minorities within India. He asserted that there is credible evidence of India’s backing of terrorist groups responsible for attacks in Pakistan.
The Pakistani representative also addressed India’s remarks on the Indus Waters Treaty, accusing India of distorting facts and misinterpreting the international agreement. He stressed that the treaty does not allow unilateral suspension, modification, or ‘abeyance,’ and described such actions as the weaponization of water for political purposes.
