Islamabad: The joint sitting of Parliament: has passed the National Commission for Minorities Rights Bill, 2025. The bill was moved by Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar, who stated that its purpose is to safeguard the rights of non-Muslims.

According to Radio Pakistan, Azam Nazeer Tarar stressed that the bill contains nothing contrary to the Quran and Sunnah and that there should be no politics on it. He emphasized that Holy Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) advocated for protecting the rights of non-Muslims and highlighted that the constitution also provides for these rights.

The Minister mentioned that the Supreme Court in 2014 had directed the formation of a commission dedicated to the rights of non-Muslims. He stated that the commission, established under this bill, offers a platform for non-Muslims to present their grievances to the government for redressal.

In addition to the National Commission for Minorities Rights Bill, the Parliament also passed several other bills today. These included ‘The National Assembly Secretariat Employees (Amendment) Bill, 2025’, ‘The Biological and Toxin Weapons Convention (Implementation) Bill, 2024’, ‘The Pakistan Institute of Management, Sciences and Technology Bill, 2023’, ‘The National University for Security Sciences, Islamabad Bill, 2023’, and ‘The Ghurki Institute of Science and Technology Bill, 2025’.

The Joint Sitting of the Parliament has now been prorogued.
