New york: Deputy Prime Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar is set to visit the United States next week to participate in Pakistan’s high-level engagements at the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) in New York and attend meetings in Washington.
According to Radio Pakistan, the Deputy Prime Minister will chair a high-level Open Debate focused on ‘Promoting International Peace and Security through Multilateralism and Peaceful Settlement of Disputes’. This debate aims to find ways to strengthen multilateralism and enhance diplomacy and mediation for resolving disputes peacefully.
In addition to this, Ishaq Dar will preside over the Quarterly Open Debate of the Security Council concerning the ‘Situation in the Middle East including the Palestinian Question’. The Deputy Prime Minister will also lead a high-level briefing on improving cooperation between the UN and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC). This meeting is part of Pakistan’s initiative to bolster collaboration between the OIC and the UN to maintain international peace and security.
Moreover, Ishaq Dar will attend a high-level Conference on the ‘Peaceful Settlement of the Question of Palestine and the implementation of Two-State Solution’, demonstrating Pakistan’s commitment to the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination. During his visit to New York, he is expected to hold several bilateral meetings with his counterparts and senior UN officials.
