Islamabad: Pakistan has once again strongly condemned what it describes as unjustified and illegitimate aggression by Israel against Iran. At his weekly media briefing in Islamabad, Foreign Office Spokesperson Shafqat Ali Khan stated that the Israeli military strikes violate Iran’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, contravening the UN Charter and the fundamental principles of international law. The spokesperson emphasized that under Article 51 of the UN Charter, Iran possesses the right to self-defence.
According to Radio Pakistan, Shafqat Ali Khan reiterated Pakistan’s steadfast solidarity with the Iranian people, denouncing the provocations as a grave threat to regional and global peace, security, and stability. He called upon the international community and the United Nations to uphold international law, halt the aggression, and hold the aggressor accountable.
Addressing the situation in Indian-occupied Jammu and Kashmir, Khan highlighted ongoing restrictions imposed by Indian authorities. He noted that during Eid-al-Adha, locals were prevented from congregating for prayers at Srinagar’s historic Jamia Masjid and Eidgah, with prominent Kashmiri leader Mirwaiz Umar Farooq placed under house arrest. Khan criticized these measures as violations of fundamental rights, urging Indian authorities to respect the rights of Kashmiris, including their right to self-determination, as per UN Security Council resolutions.
