International Labour Day Celebrations Highlight Workers’ Contributions


Islamabad: International Labour Day was observed across the country on Thursday, aligning with global celebrations to acknowledge and commend the invaluable contributions of the labour class. The day serves as a reminder of the importance of recognizing workers’ efforts and advocating for their rights.



According to Radio Pakistan, the fundamental objective of observing International Labour Day is to honor the hard work and dedication of the working class, create awareness about their rights, and protect them from exploitation. The day underscores the need to ensure fair treatment and opportunities for workers in various sectors.



Meanwhile, President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reiterated their unwavering commitment to the welfare and upliftment of workers. In their separate messages marking the occasion, both leaders emphasized the importance of equipping workers and youth with modern skills to meet the challenges of an ever-changing job market. They highlighted the necessity of adapting to new technologies and methodologies to remain competitive and secure sustainable livelihoods.



President Zardari expressed that workers are the pride of the nation, acknowledging their crucial role in national development. He emphasized that the country’s progress is deeply rooted in the efforts and contributions of its labour force. Prime Minister Sharif called upon all stakeholders to join forces in fostering a culture that respects labour, upholds their rights, and creates opportunities for decent work for all. He urged for a collaborative approach to ensure that workers’ rights are upheld and that they have access to secure and dignified employment opportunities.
