Interior Minister Aims to Enhance Security Cooperation with Iran


Tehran: Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has expressed Pakistan’s intent to enhance cooperation with Iran in the areas of security and counter-narcotics. He conveyed this during discussions with Ali Ardeshir Larijani, Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council of Iran, in Tehran.



According to Radio Pakistan, the talks involved comprehensive discussions on strengthening the relationship between Pakistan and Iran, with a particular focus on security cooperation. The discussions covered topics such as counterterrorism, counter-narcotics, and border management, highlighting the need for improved joint mechanisms to facilitate collaboration.



Ali Ardeshir Larijani acknowledged the positive progress in bilateral relations, describing it as a welcome development. In addition to this meeting, Mohsin Naqvi also met with his Iranian counterpart, Eskandar Momeni. They explored avenues to bolster cooperation on internal security matters.



During the discussions, Mohsin Naqvi extended congratulations to Eskandar Momeni for successfully hosting the ECO Ministerial Conference, noting its potential significant impacts on member countries. He emphasized Pakistan’s interest in learning from mutual experiences in internal security. Furthermore, Mohsin Naqvi invited the Iranian Interior Minister to visit Pakistan, an invitation that was accepted, with plans to visit Islamabad soon. The Iranian Minister expressed appreciation to Mohsin Naqvi for participating in the ECO Ministerial Conference.
