Islamabad: Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Attaullah Tarar, has reiterated the need for greater international assistance to address climate-related challenges of Pakistan. He was addressing as a chief guest at a ceremony ‘Donation Ceremony for Flood Disaster in Pakistan 2025’ organized by the China Chamber of Commerce in Pakistan (CCCPK), in Islamabad on Monday.
According to Radio Pakistan, the Minister termed China as Pakistan’s second home, reiterating that Pakistan and China stand as true iron brothers. He highlighted China’s consistent solidarity with Pakistan through every challenge, including the recent devastating floods. The Minister emphasized that cultural exchange and people-to-people contacts have strengthened mutual understanding and allowed Chinese culture to flourish in Pakistan.
Attaullah Tarar pointed out that Pakistan contributes less than one percent to global carbon emissions yet remains among the top ten most climate-vulnerable countries. He stressed that the recent floods are part of a broader climate crisis impacting the nation. He also expressed deep gratitude to the Chinese leadership and business community for their continued solidarity and support.
Under a donation initiative launched by China Chamber of Commerce in Pakistan in September this year, a total of 31 Chinese companies and one individual donor contributed over 34 million rupees to flood-affected communities across the country. The donation will fund essential relief items, such as food, water, blankets, mosquito nets, and waterproof tarpaulins, particularly needed as winter sets in.
Addressing the ceremony, Minister Counsellor at the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Pakistan, Yang Guangyuan, reaffirmed China’s strong commitment to supporting Pakistan. He highlighted that China had already donated relief supplies worth 100 million Chinese Yuan and two million US dollars in cash assistance to help the flood-affected communities in Pakistan. Yang Guangyuan emphasized that today’s donation was yet another example of the enduring friendship between the two countries, set against the backdrop of the upcoming 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Pakistan.
In his remarks, the Chairman of China Chamber of Commerce in Pakistan, Wang Huihua, shared that the 2025 monsoon floods caused significant devastations across Pakistan, triggering the donation initiative by Chinese companies in September. He expressed gratitude for the generosity of all contributors, highlighting that these relief efforts go beyond business interests and reflect deep solidarity with the people of Pakistan.
In his address, Executive Director of the Pakistan-China Institute, Mustafa Hyder Syed, praised the humanitarian gesture, describing it as a symbol of the unbreakable people-to-people ties between China and Pakistan. He emphasized that such support plays a vital role in helping Pakistan recover and rebuild in the aftermath of the floods. The event also witnessed the presentation of honorary certificates to the contributing companies, recognizing their critical role in the flood relief efforts.
