Info Minister Advocates Unified Media Strategy to Combat Fake News Among D-8 Nations


Baku: Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Attaullah Tarar, has called on D-8 member countries to develop a unified media policy to tackle misinformation and fake news. He made these remarks during a meeting with the Secretary-General of the D-8 Organization for Economic Cooperation, Ambassador Isiaka Abdulqadir Imam, in Baku, Azerbaijan.



According to Radio Pakistan, the discussions between Minister Tarar and Ambassador Imam focused on enhancing mutual cooperation among D-8 nations, particularly in the media sector. They also addressed other important global issues and explored potential avenues for promoting cultural ties among the member countries.



Minister Tarar emphasized the necessity of establishing an effective fact-checking system on social media platforms through a strategic approach. He highlighted the importance of controlling fake news to ensure a strong joint narrative for the D-8 countries.



The Minister further stated that integrating culture, communication, and technology could bring the people of D-8 countries closer together. He also praised the Secretary-General’s efforts, acknowledging his contributions to global economic growth and regional peace.



Ambassador Isiaka Abdulqadir Imam underscored the importance of learning from each other’s media experiences and suggested conducting joint trainings and workshops. He stated that strengthening cooperation on the D-8 platform is crucial to establishing a strong and positive global narrative.
