Islamabad: Indian forces personnel have launched a crackdown on social media platforms in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir: Indian forces during the operation against social media users, have booked and summoned dozens of individuals for uploading information about the current situation in the occupied territory.
According to Radio Pakistan, the police have warned people against posting any reports of atrocities or violence on social media, branding such uploads as the activity of ‘anti-India elements.’ In Ganderbal district, Indian police have intensified operations against individuals sharing information related to human rights abuses, atrocities, and the prevailing situation in the territory.
Meanwhile, Indian forces’ personnel, accompanied by intelligence agencies, have conducted raids and search operations at hospitals in IIOJK, including checking the lockers of doctors and medical staff at government medical colleges and hospitals. During the operation, hospital authorities were instructed to update the records of every doctor and staff member and were warned against raising any voice regarding atrocities or the demand for the right to self-determination.
On the other hand, All Parties Hurriyat Conference Senior Leader Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has urged the authorities to ensure that the harassment of Kashmiris, studying and working in parts of India, after the Delhi blast, is immediately stopped. Addressing the Friday congregation at Jamia Masjid in Srinagar, he said news of harassment keeps coming in from all over which is very disturbing. He said reports have come from Himachal and some other places where Kashmiris have been harassed and in housing colonies Kashmiris are being singled out and questioned simply because of their identity.
Referring to the raids on Kashmir Times office in Jammu, Mirwaiz lamented that press freedom had become a target of authorities and every dissenting voice from that of the authorities was seen as anti-India and a threat. He said that a free and fair media was essential for democracy and silencing it weakens democratic values.
