India Using Sexual Violence as Tool to Suppress Kashmiri Political Aspirations

Islamabad: The Indian establishment has been using sexual violence as a brutal tool to terrorize and suppress legitimate political aspirations of people of Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir. A report by Kashmir Media Service on the International Day for the Elimination of Sexual Violence in Conflict revealed that over 11,267 Kashmiri women have been subjected to sexual assault by Indian troops in the past 37 years.

According to Radio Pakistan, from mass rapes to individual assaults, these crimes are part of a calculated military strategy to humiliate and intimidate Kashmiris in their struggle for the UN-recognized right to self-determination. The report highlighted shocking cases such as the 1991 Kunanposhpora mass rape, the 2009 Shopian double rape and murder, and the 2018 gang rape of minor Aasifa Bano in Kathua.

The report also condemned the prolonged detention of over three dozen women, including resistance leader Syeda Aasiya Andrabi and her associates Fahmeeda Sofi and Nahida Nasreen. Meanwhile, senior APHC leader Ghulam Ahmad Gulzar has said that India’s militaristic policy has utterly failed to subdue Kashmiris, and the only way forward is a tripartite dialogue involving Pakistan, India and true Kashmiri representatives.

In a statement issued in Srinagar, he said India has exhausted all oppressive tactics, including mass arrests, military crackdowns, and propaganda, yet the spirit of Kashmiris remains unbroken. On the other hand, Indian troops continued the cordon and search operation in Chatroo, Kishtwar district, for a second straight day.

The Global Peace Index 2025 has named Jammu and Kashmir one of the world’s most critical escalation hotspots, warning of a high likelihood of renewed conflict between nuclear-armed India and Pakistan. Meanwhile, Canada’s top intelligence agency, Canadian Security Intelligence Service, has named India as one of the main perpetrators of foreign interference.
