India Must Comply with Indus Water Treaty: FO

Islamabad: Pakistan has reaffirmed unwavering commitment to the security and well-being of its people. The resolve was expressed by Foreign Office Spokesperson Shafqat Ali Khan during his weekly media briefing in Islamabad.

According to Radio Pakistan, Shafqat Ali Khan stated that Pakistan's security forces and law enforcement agencies conduct targeted operations in border regions to protect its citizens from terrorist threats, particularly those posed by groups such as Fitna-al-Khwarij. These operations are meticulously planned, based on credible and actionable intelligence, and executed with precision.

The Spokesperson emphasized that Pakistan respects the sovereignty of Afghanistan and remains committed to fostering dialogue and cooperation with its neighbor to address shared challenges of terrorism. He urged Afghan authorities to ensure their territory is not used for launching terrorist activities against Pakistan. He highlighted that groups like Fitna-al-Khwarij represent a common threat to regional peace and stability, necessitating collective action to counter their influence.

Khan reiterated Pakistan's belief in diplomacy, even amidst persistent threats from terrorist hideouts and sanctuaries inside Afghanistan. He stressed the importance of resolving challenges through dialogue and constructive engagements, emphasizing the mutual interest of both nations in combating terrorism and restoring stability.

Addressing a question regarding India's release of water into rivers flowing into Pakistan, the Spokesperson noted that although India shared some information about flooding, it was not as detailed as in the past. The established channel of the Indus Water Commissioner was not utilized. He reiterated that India should fully comply with all provisions of the Indus Water Treaty.

On the subject of Palestine, Shafqat Ali Khan strongly condemned the Israeli strike on Al Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis, Gaza, which resulted in the deaths of at least twenty-one individuals, including four journalists and a rescue worker. He described the attack on a medical facility and the targeting of civilians and journalists as a grave violation of international human rights, humanitarian law, and press freedom.
