IIOJK: Mirwaiz Umar Farooq Condemns Prolonged Detention of Kashmiris

Srinagar: Senior leader of All Parties Hurriyat Conference, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has voiced grave concern over the continued detention of Kashmiri political leaders, activists, and civilians under draconian laws in jails across Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir and India. Addressing a gathering in Srinagar, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq said thousands of Kashmiris from all walks of life remain imprisoned for years, and in some cases decades, merely for holding dissenting views. He urged Indian authorities to review these detentions from a humanitarian and democratic perspective and order the release of all prisoners.

According to Radio Pakistan, Indian army, police, and paramilitary personnel conducted a massive cordon and search operation for the fifth consecutive day in Rajouri district. Indian forces have sealed nearby villages, subjecting residents to severe harassment amid heavy troop deployment and constant drone surveillance. Furthermore, the Border Security Force and police have also launched search operations in Challiyari and Chamliyal villages along the Working Boundary in Samba district.

APHC spokesman Advocate Abdul Rashid Minhas, in a statement issued in Srinagar, has strongly condemned the ongoing house raids and searches by Indian troops across IIOJK. He said they are committing grave human rights violations under the guise of these operations. The spokesman urged the UN and international community to take serious notice of the widespread violations and play their role in facilitating a peaceful resolution of the Kashmir dispute.
