Islamabad: Minister for Information Technology Shaza Fatima has affirmed that the government’s focus will be directed towards emerging technologies to drive progress. Speaking at an event in Islamabad, she highlighted that ninety-eight percent of the federal government and its ministries have successfully transitioned to the e-office system. She also noted that the judicial system is undergoing a significant digital transformation aimed at enhancing transparency and efficiency within both the government and the judiciary through the use of technology.

According to Radio Pakistan, the Minister mentioned that the government passed a comprehensive AI policy in July this year, emphasizing the mission to empower all sectors through artificial intelligence integration. Under this policy, she stated that one million youth will be trained in AI. She also noted a ninety-one percent growth in the number of Pakistani freelancers and remote workers over the past year, indicating significant potential for further expansion.

During the concluding session of the event, Shaza Fatima Khawaja stressed the need for the safe and responsible use of artificial intelligence. She remarked that AI and social media are increasingly blurring the lines between reality and the virtual world, highlighting the urgent need to curb misinformation and promote digital responsibility.

The Minister emphasized the importance of using AI to enhance creativity and broaden the reach of digital content, while also safeguarding individuals and communities from the negative effects of social media.

Speaking on the occasion, Secretary for IT and Telecommunication Zarrar Hasham Khan stated that the government is actively working to build AI capacity among public officials. He informed that two AI courses have been introduced at the Civil Services Academy to train officers in emerging technologies. He also stressed the importance of developing localized AI models aligned with Pakistan’s national policies and priorities.

The Secretary reiterated the government’s commitment to collaborating with stakeholders to foster innovation and support local startups and entrepreneurs in the IT sector.
