Lahore: Federal Minister for Climate Change, Musadik Malik, announced the government's plans to support young innovators with climate-related business ideas by providing them access to funding. In an exclusive interview with Radio Pakistan Lahore Correspondent Ghulam Haider, Malik detailed new institutional mechanisms that aim to facilitate the growth of green businesses.
According to Radio Pakistan, the Minister revealed the establishment of dedicated centers designed to prepare climate projects of international standards. This initiative is intended to enhance Pakistan's ability to access global climate finance more effectively. Malik expressed his approval of various provincial initiatives, particularly in Punjab, which include the Green Credit Program and projects promoting electric vehicles, cycling, and women's empowerment, along with the Suthra Punjab program.
Malik noted a reduction in smog levels this year, attributing this improvement to the efforts of the Punjab government and better coordination and policy implementation. He emphasized Pakistan's increased climate diplomacy efforts to highlight the unequal impacts of climate change and the accountability of major carbon emitters. Malik stressed that Pakistan is actively presenting its case at every global forum.
The Minister explained that rising carbon emissions contribute to higher temperatures, glacier melting, and devastating floods, significantly affecting countries with minimal contributions to global emissions. He advocated for climate compensation in the form of grants rather than loans, as additional debt burdens could undermine essential sectors such as health and education.
