Govt Tackling Poverty Through Social Protection Initiatives, Says Khurram

Islamabad: Advisor to the Finance Minister Khurram Schehzad has stated that the government is addressing poverty through social protection, targeted development projects, and provincial spending. He highlighted these initiatives as part of a comprehensive reform agenda aimed at safeguarding vulnerable communities and alleviating poverty.

According to Radio Pakistan, Schehzad provided an in-depth analysis of the recent statistics on poverty released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics. He pointed out the challenges posed by global commodity inflation, the Covid-19 pandemic, and geopolitical tensions, all of which have adversely affected Pakistan's economic landscape. Furthermore, he noted the devastating impact of the floods in 2022 and 2025 on rural employment, agriculture, and infrastructure.

Schehzad also elaborated on the implementation of three reform programs in collaboration with the International Monetary Fund (IMF). While acknowledging the short-term pressures these programs may create, he expressed confidence in their potential to deliver long-term benefits for the country's economy.
